          CLASSIFICATION OF THE SCHOOL

          Základná škola Starý Tekov is a primary school for children in the age range 6-15 years. There are 154 children enrol in the school. Our highly – qualified teachers use varied, stimulating methods in which our children achieve their small and great successes.

           

          THE ETHOS OF THE SCHOOL

          We as a community want to work together to create an atmosphere of purposeful work and positive social relationships. In this way, we hope that our pupils can flourish and achieve their full potential.

           

          The school has an agreed mission statement which is:

          „ This school intends to develop the maximum potential of all its members and enrich their lives in an atmosphere of high achievement, co- operation, friendship and security.

           

          Our aims as a school are:

          ●      To provide an enviroment for all children and staff which is happy, stimulating secure and which offers full equality of opportunity.

          ●      To ensure that every child develops his/her maximum potential in all areas, intellectual, social, moral, artistic, practical and spiritual.

          ●      To provide a broad, balanced and relevant curriculum, to which every child has equal access.

          ●      To foster moral and social awareness and a tolerant attitude to others in society.

           

           

          ORGANIZATION OF CLASSES

          The school has nine classes. In each class there are approximately 20 pupils.

           

          Core subjects are:

          Slovak language and Literature

          Mathematics

          English

           

          Foundation subjects are:

          Science, Physic, Geography, History, Art, Music, Physical Education, ICT, Technology, Chemics, Religious Educations and Ethics.

           

          EXTRA- CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

          As well as the formal curriculum, which is taught during the school day, we also offer children the opportunity to become involed in other acitvties after school finishes. The school offers a wide range of opportunities. Examples of activities which have been made available during this academic year are dance, volleyball, basketball, maths, computer clubs, English conversation, chess club, creative arts clubs.Pupils also have the opportunity to join tourist trips which are organised at the weekends.

           

          PARENTS AND SCHOOL

          School and parents must work together if every child is to fulfil his/her potential. Parents are always welcome to come into the school, whether it is to discuss childrenś progress, address any problems, as guests at our events or as voluntary helpers. The school has an „open door“ policy for all parents. Parents are invited to watch class and other special assemblies during the year.
